Advances and alternatives in diabetic ulcer offloading
from Lower Extremity Review
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects nearly 10 percent of the U.S. population, with individuals of American Indian/Alaskan Native, non-Hispanic black, and Hispanic heritage known to be at greater risk than Caucasians. A common complication seen in diabetes is damage of peripheral nerves (diabetic neuropathy), which can subsequently lead to muscle weakness and loss of pain sensation.
