Rare heart-lung transplant performed at Boston hospital
It had been more than 20 years since surgeons at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston had performed this delicate surgery: a heart-lung transplant. Then, in the spring of 2018, they performed this complex operation on Camille Frede, a young woman who had been sick for as long as she could remember. "Her disease was really in the lungs, but Camille was born with a congenital abnormality. So even though her heart function was OK, we couldn't technically make all the connections in the right places without changing everything," Dr. Hari Mallidi said.
