Suspect in custody after Fayette County deputy shot, critically injured

A man accused of shooting a Fayette County deputy Thursday and barricading himself at an apartment in La Grange was taken into custody Thursday night after a standoff, La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said. The deputy, who has not been identified, was taken to Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, where he is in critical condition, Gilbreath said at a media briefing Thursday. The deputy was shot in the head, said Fayette County Judge Ed Janecka.
