Automated approach may improve cervical cancer screening
From July 11:
An automated risk score algorithm of cervical screening and triage demonstrated similar sensitivity and specificity to cytology for targeting precancerous conditions and identifying women with HPV most in need of treatment, according to study findings. “The results of this study showed that a computer algorithm matches or exceeds cytology triage performance, confirming our previous proof-of-principle study conducted in a referral population,” Kai Yu, PhD, from the biostatistics branch, division of cancer epidemiology and genetics at NCI, and colleagues wrote.
