Fitness column: Resistance training boosts gains beyond cardio

Studies recently posted in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found the benefits of weight training were not limited to big biceps. Researchers demonstrated a significant impact on bone health, physical function, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, lowering cholesterol, stroke and obesity—all in absence of traditional cardio exercise. Even better, study participants weren't required to spend hours in the gym clanging weights.
