NARFE to Congress: Postal reform flawed
Last week, NARFE National President Ken Thomas submitted
to the House Committee on Oversight and Reform in advance of a
concerning the financial condition of the United States Postal Service (USPS). NARFE's letter expresses the organization's views and concerns on postal reform provisions under consideration by the committee, including a Medicare Part B requirement, the prefunding requirement, privatization and service standards.
Reducing the prefunding requirement is a proposal that should be adopted to help stabilize the financial condition of the USPS. The letter also outlines support for House resolutions calling to maintain six-day mail delivery, to-the-door delivery and current USPS service standards, and opposition to any legislation that would seek to privatize the postal service.
