Nurse suicide: Under the radar

Many of the suicide risk factors for nurses are the same as in the general population, said Sidney Zisook, MD, a psychiatry professor at the University of California San Diego, whose research focuses on mood disorders. These include past history of a suicide attempt, suicidal ideation, and past or present history of a serious mental illness such as depression or bipolar disorder. Nurses are no more immune to these factors than anyone, Zisook said.
