Study finds women undergrads in STEM facing 'chilly' campus climate

Research published this month found that as women students remain underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses, they are being subjected to an unwelcoming, “chilly” atmosphere in these male‐dominated fields. In an article titled “Identity, Campus Climate, and Burnout Among Undergraduate Women in STEM Fields,” Purdue University professor Dr. Eric Deemer and Ph.D. student Laura Jensen wrote that respondents often described an unpleasant campus climate “associated with increased emotional exhaustion and cynicism, although not decreased academic efficacy.” more
