Training surgeons to use robotic systems
from Robotics Tomorrow
Technological innovation has brought with it a new challenge: Teaching clinicians how to use this new and often complex technology. Failing to do so can negate the potential benefits, ironically putting patients at risk of harm from the devices that were supposed to benefit them. Currently, there are critical issues in the way surgeons are trained, both in residency and beyond. Research shows that 30% of surgical graduates are unable to operate independently. Furthermore, surgeons out in practice have less time to perform the nearly 100 cases required to safely use each of today's complex techniques and devices.
