Suicide Climbing Fast, Especially in Rural US
The U.S. has seen a grim jump in suicide over the 15 years ending in 2016, and rural areas have borne the brunt of the alarming increase, according to new research. The study by researchers at Ohio State University was published online in the journal
JAMA Network Open
. It also highlights a cluster of factors that are associated with high suicide rates, including lack of insurance, the prevalence of gun shops and economic deprivation.
