For lupus, expanding Medicaid wasn't enough
from MedPage Today
States' expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) failed to reduce preventable hospitalizations among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a retrospective study found. In a fully adjusted model, the likelihood of having a preventable hospitalization was significantly higher in states that expanded Medicaid, with an odds ratio of 1.302 (95% CI 1.119-1.515) compared with states that did not expand Medicaid, according to Elizabeth A. Brown, PhD, and colleagues from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
