Oceanside harbor police see increase in smuggling-related incidents
from The San Diego Union Tribune
Oceanside Harbor, California, police are seeing increased incidents of human and narcotics smuggling, though in illegal immigration cases there’s little the officers can do but cite the boat captains for safety violations. Oceanside has the only port between San Diego and Dana Point, California, in Orange County, making it an occasional target for smugglers. The harbor’s police detachment, which has two boats and eight full-time officers, a sergeant and a lieutenant, is responsible for maritime law enforcement and emergency response along the city’s 3.5-mile coast and up to three miles offshore.
