Exercise is recommended for the majority of patients regardless of age, gender, or physical disability. The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommended that all adults perform 150 minutes per week of moderate aerobic physical activity or 75 minutes of intense physical activity per week to achieve a cardiovascular benefit. The World Health Organization corroborates this recommendation for the worldwide adult population.
