The fight against surprise health care billing is (literally) up in the air

from Yahoo!

Air ambulances, which transport the sick and injured to hospitals from accident locations, are very expensive — and coming under renewed scrutiny in the battle to restrain unexpected health care costs. In a new report, Moody’s Investor Service estimated air medical services collect $35,000 to $40,000 per transport from private insurers, compared to Medicare collections of just $5,000 to $6,000 and Medicaid collections of $3,500 to $4,000.
