Federal help for local parks

The National Park Service is helping five southern states create new parks and conservation areas. Federal landscape architects and community planners are working with Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida to develop trails and open spaces under a federal assistance program. One project — building a trail along the path that naturalist John Muir took through Kentucky during his walk to the Gulf of Mexico. more
