House calls for homebound patients: Has their time come?
Physician home visits are a growing trend in healthcare, driven largely by the aging population of the United States. Various programs across the country provide primary care services for homebound seniors, such as the UCSF Housecalls Program. The program is staffed by nine physicians, three nurse practitioners, two practice coordinators and two nurse case managers. It covers the entire city of San Francisco, including the notoriously dangerous Tenderloin district.
