Globally, opioids accounted for 55% of drug-related deaths in 2010, and in the U.S., 116 people die from opioid overdoses every day. In a single year the death rate from heroin alone increased by 21%, and deaths due to synthetic opioids increased by 100% between 2015 and 2016.
