Gov. Gary Herbert's final budget asks for investment in education and green transportation
from The Salt Lake Tribune
Gov. Gary Herbert evoked the Beehive State's pioneer history, saying Utah continues to "blossom like a rose" by luring new residents with good jobs, good schools and a good quality of life. At a news conference at This Is the Place Heritage Park, Herbert — who is not seeking reelection this year — announced the final budget recommendations of his administration. In his proposal, Herbert asks lawmakers to increase public and higher education spending by roughly $400 million and to direct $100 million toward transportation projects that could help improve the state's air quality.
