CDC Panel Releases Updated Pediatric Vaccine Schedule

from AAFP

The CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices issued an updated pediatric vaccine schedule stating that only oral polio vaccinations given to children prior to April 1, 2016, should be counted and recommending "shared clinical decision-making" for meningococcal B immunizations. The updated schedule in Pediatrics also recommended that a fifth DTaP dose is unnecessary in youths given the fourth dose at ages 4 or older and six months after the third dose and said that children ages 7 to 9 years who get the Tdap vaccine should get the routine Tdap dose at ages 11 to 12, but 10-year-olds do not need to get the routine Tdap dose at ages 11 to 12 years.
