Democrats target plastics industry
A group of Senate and House Democrats are moving to crack down on plastics waste, requiring manufacturers to pay for recycling their products, creating a nationwide deposit system and banning many single-use products. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., and Rep Alan Lowenthal, D-N.Y., introduced legislation that would upend the U.S. plastics industry, putting a hold on the construction of new plastic manufacturing facilities so federal environmental agencies can study the extend of the waste crisis.
