IIHS: Automakers need better driver monitoring in high-tech cars

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has issued a set of research-based guidelines for monitoring whether drivers are paying attention to the road when using high-tech driver assistance systems — adding pressure on the auto industry to address what has become a growing safety concern. Cars with systems that steer, accelerate, and brake under certain conditions, such as Tesla’s Autopilot or Nissan's ProPilot Assist, should have devices to track a driver’s eye movements and/or head position, IIHS says. more
