from The International Journal of Lower Extremity Wounds
COVID-19 outbreak has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Subjects with diabetes mellitus are at an increased risk of this infection. What about subjects with diabetic foot? First of all, increased cytokine levels (interleukin-6, interleukin-10, and tumor necrosis factor-α) play a key role in unfavorable COVID-19 outcomes. At the same time, various cytokine alterations and increases, with or without growth factor inadequacies, are seen in patients with diabetic foot ulcers.
