The role of nurses as allies against racism and discrimination
from Advances in Nursing Science
In January 2017, the American Nurses Association (ANA) issued a formal statement on ethics and human rights. This statement was unequivocal in its call for nurses to uphold human rights and social justice, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations. The ANA used the term “formidable” in describing the synergy of ethics, human rights, and nursing, a strong word that emphasizes the seriousness with which this major body that governs the profession of nursing in the United States takes these issues.
