Assessment of racial and ethnic disparities in the use of medication to treat opioid use disorder among pregnant women in Massachusetts

The number of pregnant women with opioid use disorder (OUD) has increased 4-fold during the past decade, paralleling the increase of opioid use in the general population in the United States. During pregnancy, medication for the treatment of OUD (defined as buprenorphine or methadone) combined with behavioral therapy is the recommended management for women with OUD.
