Addressing alcohol use in pregnancy
from The American Journal of Nursing
Alcohol consumption during pregnancy can influence fetal development, causing lifelong behavioral, intellectual, and physical impairments known as fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs) — fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) being the most severe type. Conservative estimates indicate that up to one in 20 U.S. schoolchildren may be affected by FASDs, making these disorders more common than autism spectrum disorder, currently estimated to affect 1 in 54 children.
