Socially Relevant Variables in U.S. State COVID-19 Surveillance Reporting: A Report Card
from Health Affairs
In the United States, significant health disparities exist along the axes of age, sex/gender, and race/ethnicity, reflected in the distribution of chronic and life-threatening conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Preliminary data suggest this is also the case with the COVID-19 pandemic: mortality rates seem to be higher among men compared to women, and higher among Black and Latinx Americans compared to White Americans.
