FEMA and Natural Hazard Center to co-host Oct. 13 webinar on the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will co-host a webinar with the Natural Hazard Center on “The Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000: 20 Years of Promise, Pitfalls and Progress from a Planning Perspective.” To be held Oct. 13, 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT, the webinar was scheduled to occur during October, the National Community Mitigation Planning Month, and in honor of the 20-year anniversary of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000. A distinguished line-up of researchers and practitioners will reflect on the past twenty years, highlighting various hazards that have affected the United States. The discussion also will include an analysis of the pitfalls and progress that has been made to reduce hazard risk in U.S. communities. Panelists will include: Robyn Fennig, Wisconsin Emergency Management; Derrick Hiebert, King County Emergency Management; and Shanene Thomas, FEMA.
