How veterans feel about their federal holiday
from Connecting Vets
Originally known as Armistice Day, marking the conclusion of World War I, what is now known as Veterans Day was codified into federal law in 1938. In the 1950s Armistice Day was changed to Veterans Day specifically to also honor the service of veterans from World War II. Today, Veterans Day holds a place of veneration for much of the public which continues to hold the military in high regard.
