Rather, patient experience is much more comprehensive. More

American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
One physician online rating site says it has found what makes for a happy patient: A short time in the waiting room and a longer time in the exam room with the doctor. analyzed 36,000 patient satisfaction surveys submitted to the website in 2011 for its annual Report Card. The analysis found that patients don't want to wait more than 15 minutes to see a doctor. And when they get into the exam room, they expect visits of at least 10 minutes. More

Docs slow to engage patients with IT
Healthcare IT News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A new study by the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions indicates physicians are not using IT broadly to engage patients. No more than 20 percent of doctors are providing online scheduling or test results for their patients and just 6 percent are using social media to communicate with them, according to Deloitte. The report shows that, measured against the IT goals and deadlines prescribed by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, only 25 percent of physicians are on target to meet the meaningful use incentives. Doctors, however, are more confident about being able to satisfy the mandate to upgrade their medical billing and coding systems to comply with ICD-10 coding. More

Insurers think outside the policy
American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Once upon a time, U.S. insurers' business was paying claims and putting together networks of physicians and hospitals. That work was once outside the purview of the largest U.S. health insurers or relegated to side projects. But in 2012, after U.S. health system reform and amid other changes sweeping the industry, health plans are relying on businesses that were once peripheral to drive company profits. More

Feds finalize next stage of meaningful use guidelines
MedPage Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Doctors now have an extra nine months to prove to the federal government that they've accomplished the early stages of meaningful use of health information technology. "Meaningful use" refers to provisions in the 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, which authorized incentive payments through Medicare and Medicaid to clinicians and hospitals that use electronic health records in a meaningful way that significantly improves clinical care.
