American Medical News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Those who develop reminder and recall systems at medical practices say the first step to figuring out what patient reminders will ensure that appointments are kept and medications are taken is to consider how the patient population wants to be reminded, and what the practice wants to remind them about. It might take a few tries to find the right solution, and several solutions may be needed for various situations. More

Kaiser Health News via USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Hospital-at-home programs refashion care for chronically ill patients with acute medical issues, testing traditional notions of how to treat people who become seriously ill. Are you ready for an ACO?
HealthLeaders Media    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It seems like each week brings yet another announcement about some combination of physicians, hospitals and even health plans that are forming collaborations or partnerships and calling them accountable care organizations. The ACO moniker carries a lot of weight these days. Health Data Management    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
At the beginning of 2012, the mail room at El Paso First Health Plan saw a spike in incoming letters — and they weren't New Year's greeting cards. No, the bulging mailbags contained paper claims. And they kept coming until the end of February. Ironically, the surge in paper claims was caused by a federal program designed to expedite electronic claims. The HIPAA 5010 format — an electronic claims standard that took effect Jan. 1 — replaced its 4010 predecessor with a number of new reporting fields that enhance communications, at least in theory, between providers and payers in a standardized way. AHIMA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The implementation of ICD-10-CM/PCS is a significant opportunity for healthcare organizations to upgrade the quality of healthcare transactional data. It is also a big, complex amendment in the area of clinical coding.
