Just how safe are X-rays at the dentist?
MailOnline    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail
Regular X-rays have long been a feature of routine dental checks, and few of us gave them a second thought — until recently when a new study warned that these scans could double the risk of developing thyroid cancer. An international study of just over 300 thyroid cancer patients found that repeated X-rays dramatically increased the risk of the disease, prompting researchers to question the widely held belief that dental radiography is absolutely safe. Wyoming dental board opposes salon's teeth-whitening service
Star-Tribune    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Bronze Bottom Tanning can darken your skin, feed you a smoothie, give you a shot of oxygen and sell you a swimsuit. But the Wyoming Board of Dental Examiners says the salon in west Casper should not help you whiten your teeth. The board, through the Wyoming attorney general's office, filed a complaint asking Natrona County District Court to issue an injunction against Bronze Bottom Tanning to stop it from offering a $49.95 whitening kit and two 15-minute sessions under a UV lamp for $149. The Guardian    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
One in five Italian dentists is unqualified, along with an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 physicians, it was reported last month. More than a thousand people were charged in Italy last year with unauthorized exercise of a medical profession. They included fake physicians, spurious dentists and even a few sham nurses. Fee-for service solo practice: At risk of extinction?
Dentistry IQ    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Have you noticed the same trend I have? Everywhere I look there are national chain dental practices popping up, often run by business professional as opposed to dental professionals. Perhaps it shouldn't surprise us. Deep down, we know we've been asleep at the wheel for a while now. The last statistic I read was that nearly 90 percent of us enter solo practice within five years of graduation. I'd like to rephrase that: nearly 90 percent of us enter our caves within five years of graduation. More
