American Dental Association    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

"This is the most accurate picture of periodontal disease in the U.S. adult population we have ever had," said Dr. Pamela McClain, president of the American Academy of Periodontology and a practicing periodontist in Aurora, Colo. Is dental implant surgery for you?
EmpowHER    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article

Those are at greater risk for infection, decay and gum disease. They can end up with gums that are swollen or that bleed. They are prone to cavities, teeth loosening and falling out. It's tough to lose your teeth. But there are more options now than there used to be when it comes to replacing missing teeth. More

Scientists ID 'strong oral carcinogen' in smokeless tobacco
American Dental Association    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Scientists say they identified a strong oral carcinogen in smokeless tobacco and called for federal regulation of the substance (S)-NNN, one of a family of compounds called nitrosamines, in these products. Although mounting evidence suggests an increased risk of cancer of the mouth, esophagus and pancreas for users of chewing tobacco, snuff and related products, until now no substance in these products was clearly implicated as a cause of mouth cancer, said Dr. Stephen Hecht, University of Minnesota, who led the study. Sharp cuts in dental coverage for adults on Medicaid
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
