Pilots need to follow safety rules, FAA chief says

Safety rules are on the books but some pilots don't comply with them, FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt said in Anchorage, Alaska. Babbitt came to Alaska this week for a series of safety-related events and meetings. His trip coincides with a rough period for Alaska air crashes -- since early June, 17 people including former U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens have died in aircraft accidents. More

JIA to offer security fast track to elite travelers

Travelers with a preferred or elite flight designation will be able to get through security faster at Jacksonville International Airport starting in October. Travelers who have special privileges with airlines, such as American Airlines' Admiral Club and Continental Airlines' EliteAccess, can use a designated and shorter lane. Business travelers who have premium prepaid monthly parking at the airport will also be able to take advantage of the faster security lines, Jacksonville Aviation Authority spokesman Michael Stewart said. US working papers to be considered during the 37th International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly in September 2010 were summarized during an industry briefing at FAA Headquarters. Topics of particular interest to ACC members include 'Security Programs and Security Policy Making Mechanisms,' 'Achieving a Common Understanding of SSP-SMS Relationships,' 'Global Aspirational Goal to Address International Aviation Carbon Emissions,' and 'Sustainable Alternative Fuels for Aviation.' The ACC Safety & Security, Environmental and Planning committee leaders will be provided these documents as a possible topic of discussion during their next round of committee conference calls. The newspaper says the "more aggressive palms-first, slide-down body search technique … has renewed the debate over privacy vs. safety." More
