EPA Seeks to Limit Plane Deicing Chemical Runoff

Every winter, airports across the country spray millions of gallons of deicing chemicals onto airliners and allow the runoff to trickle away. When the chemicals end up in nearby waterways, the deicing fluid can turn streams bright orange and create dead zones for aquatic life. San Antonio International Airport Lands Stimulus Funds for Baggage-check Upgrade

San Antonio International Airport will receive $14 million in stimulus funding to invest in a checked baggage inspection system in Terminal A. U.S. Reps. Ciro D. Rodriguez, D-San Antonio, and Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, made the announcement Monday. The money will be used to design and implement a series of modifications into the terminal's baggage handling system. The airport will incorporate an explosive detection system into the current inspection process.  More

    Czech Lawmakers Pass Bill Blocking Airport Sale

    Czech lawmakers in the lower house passed a law on Wednesday that would effectively forbid the sale of state-owned Prague Airport. Deputies voted 96-47 in the 200-seat house for the law, which stipulates that the owner of Prague Airport must be the state or a company wholly owned by the state, according to the lower house's Web site.   More
