The Boston Globe    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Federal officials are auditing Roxbury Community College for suspected lapses in its reporting of crimes committed on campus — the latest in a series of controversies for college President Terrence Gomes. Officials with the U.S. Department of Education were expected to arrive on campus to find out why the college has failed to report serious allegations of crimes on campus. The officials have unofficially learned of at least three reports by students of such crimes, including sexual assault, over the past several years, a person familiar with the inquiry told The Boston Globe. Elizabeth "Betty" Greenleaf was the sixth woman to serve as ACPA president and held that term from 1967-1968. An alumna of DePauw University (A.B.), the University of Wisconsin (M.A.), and of Indiana University (Ed.D.), Greenleaf had a distinguished career as an educator and was responsible for combining men's and women's residence halls at Indiana University in the 1960s. Under Greenleaf's leadership, ACPA's Summer Leadership Meeting was born. Additionally, during the first mid-year meeting in Chicago in 1966, Greenleaf appointed an ad hoc committee to consider ethics and standards for the profession. More

The New York Times recently began its series on the implications of graduates struggling to pay off student loans. TIME    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Are you or have you ever been a college binge drinker? Welcome to alcoholism, a diagnosis your college self could qualify for under the changes proposed to the next edition of psychiatry’s diagnostic manual, the DSM 5. Currently, alcohol and other drug problems come in two flavors. The first, "substance abuse" is a short-term, self-limiting problem: it encompasses most heavy drinking in college. The second "substance dependence," is what everyone else calls addiction or alcoholism and is typically chronic and marked by relapses. More
