No matter the type or stage of breast cancer, minority women are more likely to be diagnosed later in the disease than white women, and they are also less likely to receive recommended treatments, a new study shows. While prior studies have found such disparities before, the new research finds that it exists "across all breast cancer subtypes," study lead author Lu Chen, a researcher in the public health sciences division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, said in a news release from the American Association for Cancer Research.

The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has posted online new draft recommendations for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in adults and is seeking public comments and feedback until Nov. 2.
The draft statement updates 2008 USPSTF screening recommendations for CRC and includes two notable proposed changes. However, the guidance continues to recommend screening for all adults aged between 50 and 75 years and is mostly the same as the last set of recommendations.

A new phase of the Breast Cancer and the Environment Research Program, focused on prevention, is being launched at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Grant-funded researchers will now work across scientific disciplines, involve new racially and ethnically diverse communities, and expand the study of risk factors that precede breast cancer, such as breast density.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the Commission on Cancer (CoC) encourage your program to promote the event and use it as an opportunity to display/promote your accreditation status. To help you publicize this event within your program and the community, the NAPBC and the CoC have created a poster that you can download and print. Programs that are solely CoC accredited or accredited by both the CoC and NAPBC can access the poster by logging into CoC Datalinks and clicking on Marketing Resources Staff and NAPBC-accredited breast centers can log into the NAPBC portal and click on the "2015 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Poster" link in the "View Downloadable Center Resources" section to access the marketing resources Web page.
