NCDB reporting tools, RQRS unavailable November 25
Commission on Cancer (CoC) Datalinks will be unavailable for Rapid Quality Reporting System (RQRS) file submissions, dashboards, alerts and case list and National Cancer Database (NCDB) reporting tools on Monday November 25, 2019, due to IT server maintenance. Please contact us with any questions at NCDB@facs.org.
The NCDB PUF application is now open
The NCDB Participant User File (PUF) application process is now open. The NCDB will accept submissions for site-specific files, which include cases diagnosed between 2004 and 2016. The application period will now be open year-round, except for brief
scheduled maintenance or brief updates. The 2017 PUF data is anticipated to be available in early 2020.
One change of note in this release of the PUF is that applicants will have the option of requesting a technical review of proposals for feasibility. Although it is not required to request a technical review, applicants are encouraged to do so, especially if they are new PUF users.
More information on the PUF submission process is available on the Cancer Programs website or by e-mailing the NCDB technical staff at NCDB_PUF@facs.org.

This state of affairs is certainly not a recent development. In his 1982 autobiography, Morris Abram, a civil rights lawyer who had leukemia, described this conflict during his care by a prominent clinical cancer investigator.

In the world of cancer biology, not all biomarkers are created equal. These molecules that alert doctors that an abnormal process may be underway can appear as an array of aberrant proteins, such as hormones, enzymes or signaling molecules, and vary from patient to patient. Because they are a mixed bag, no one drug exists to attack them. But now, a University of Houston College of Pharmacy associate professor has discovered a new biomarker in cancer stem cells that govern cancer survival and spread, and it's raising hope that drug discovery to kill cancer stem cells could follow suit.
