Hollywood's leading ladies made their fashion statements in color at the 68th Golden Globe Awards. Two extremes of the spectrum reigned in fashion, with sherbet shades of pink and coral and jewel tones of emerald green and ruby red most popular in gowns favoring long-sleeves or strapless, backless or slit, with sparkles and sequins still trending. Pearl auctions in Dubai net nearly $14 million

The Dubai Pearl Exchange hosted two pearl auctions earlier this month and reported that total sales were more than $13.5 million. The first auction featured white South Sea pearls produced by Paspaley Pearling Co. The second auction featured a selection of Tahitian and golden South Sea pearls from Robert Wan and Jewelmer. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, said that the success of the pearl auctions was a testament to the DPE's continuous achievement in positioning Dubai as a global pearl trading hub. Government documents released recently show that Saudi King Abdullah gave the Obama family nearly $190,000 in luxury baubles in 2009. That includes the single-most valuable gift reported: a ruby and diamond jewelry set worth $132,000 for the first lady. The king also presented Michelle Obama with a $14,200 pearl necklace. More
