A humble Hollywood, in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, toned down the bling for the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards Jan. 17 in Los Angeles. It was simple elegance, with the mode of accessory a signature jewel - mostly earrings, and some really great bracelets and rings. Three major gem and jewelry industry organizations have plans to pay tribute to the late Campbell Bridges at a memorial ceremony during the AGTA GemFair in Tucson. The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will remember industry icon Campbell Bridges, who was killed in Kenya last year near his mine in Tsavo. Jewelers of America (JA) and Jewelers for Children (JFC) have joined forces to raise relief funds that are essential for both immediate and long-term relief efforts in Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake on Tuesday. The associations have pledged to match contributions between January 15-25, made at JFC's website, up to a total of $30,000. More

A Vietnamese jewelry company said a team of 50 artisans will be employed to turn a 35-ton block into the world's largest jade statue of Buddha.
