LVMH acquires majority stake in Bulgari

LVMH has acquired a majority stake in Bulgari. The deal transfers the Bulgari family's majority shareholding to LVMH. At the end of the transfer, LVMH will issue 16.5 million shares in exchange for the 152.5 million Bulgari shares currently held by the Bulgari family, who will become the second-largest family shareholder of the LVMH Group. LVMH will also submit a public purchase offer at the price of $17.18 per share on the shares held by minority stockholders. More

Gemfields reported that revenue from rough and polished emerald sales soared 141 percent to $29 million for the six months that ended Dec. 31, 2010, versus the same fiscal period of 2009. The mining company also recovered a profit of $15.5 million versus a loss of $5.8 million one year ago. The figures were boosted by an increase in achieved per-carat prices as a result of continuing increase in demand for ethically supplied emeralds across all markets. More

Mann's appointment, effective Feb. 28, gives him responsibility to plan, develop, implement and evaluate the Institute's global JMA education programs. Bejeweled Indian canopy to be auctioned in New York

A stunning, rarely seen bejeweled canopy from India is expected to sell for as much as $5 million when it is auctioned next month, according to Sotheby's. The nearly-150-year-old Pearl Canopy of Baroda will go under the hammer March 24 as part of a larger auction of Indian and Southeast Asian works of art in New York. The canopy includes over 500,000 pearls, as well as numerous diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds sewn on silk. More
