Usually, they start with a celebrity (Like Oprah Winfrey and the diamond circle pendant). So as jewelry hounds are wont to do, I've been digging around for a celebrity jewelry trend that's ready to break to the masses -- and break big. Enter Rihanna. More

Close up on aquamarine
Color-n-Ice    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Limpid aquamarine bedazzles legions of devotees. Its cool sea foam refreshes the eye and inspires a sense of wonder in designers. Aqua's ethereal greenish blue is a modern choice for artisans who believe "the stone's the thing" over their prowess at the jewelers bench. But this precious beryl variety has been harvested for centuries where vividly hued stones are found: Brazil, Kenya, Madagascar and even Russia before their deposits were mined out. More

They passed on the champagne -- and the cognac, too
The Jewelry Journalist    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Sometimes I just don't get it. As a jewelry journalist, I want to tell people about the most beautiful jewelry, the best designers, the newest product -- all that good stuff. But what happens? It's a clear and starry crystal," Handri, a stone seller, told the man as the latter nodded and smiled. Handri, an East Java native, is one of many gemstone traders running his business at Pasar Burung on Jalan Veteran in Denpasar, Indonesia. Initially dominated by bird traders and lovers, Pasar Burung has become a heaven for gemstone enthusiasts. More
