One of the primary missions of the American Gem Trade Association is the promotion of colored gemstones and cultured pearls. AGTA's ongoing efforts showcasing colored gemstone and pearl jewelry has been paying dividends with continued support from stylists and the media. "We are building momentum for color through AGTA programs specifically created to produce media exposure," stated Douglas K. Hucker, AGTA CEO. "The coverage as a result of our American Gem Trade Association Collection at key red carpet events and our annual AGTA Spectrum Awards competition really helps keep colored gemstone and pearl jewelry highly visible in the trade and to the consumer." A Cartier "Tutti Frutti" bracelet sold for almost $2 million at a recent Christie's auction. Featuring diamonds in the shape of an undulating vine, with emerald leaves and ruby flowers and berries, the bracelet drew the largest amount ever paid at auction for a piece of Tutti Frutti jewelry. More

Silver Linings of Talbot County, Md., gave a strand of pearls to every girl graduate — approximately 170 in all — of Easton and St. Michaels high schools to honor the achievement of these young women. The owner of Silver Linings, Aida Leisure, developed the idea when she noted a trend over the last few years that fewer young women were being given pearl jewelry as a graduation gift. More
