One of the primary missions of the American Gem Trade Association is to provide information and education to help sell more colored gemstones and cultured pearls. Zultanite is marked by its chameleon-like nature, changing color from kiwi green with flashes of yellow in sunlight conditions to raspberry hues in candlelight, and a rich champagne color indoors. Louisiana moves to replace agate as official gemstone

The Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs in Louisiana has unanimously approved and sent to the Senate floor House Bill 246, which would designate the cabochon-cut gemstone, made from a species of oysters known as the Crassostrea virginica, as the state's gemstone, dislodging the agate from that honor. More

True North Gems applies for mining permit on ruby and sapphire deposit in Greenland

True North Gems announced the filing of the exploitation permit application for the Aappaluttoq Ruby and Pink Sapphire Project in Southwest Greenland. The company filed its application together with an accompanying technical report. The production of ruby and pink sapphire from the deposit is expected to continue for nine years based on the current development plan. Further development and exploration of the deposit is expected to extend the life of the operation for several more years. More

India's gems and jewelry exports increased 33.5 percent from a year earlier in May to $3.71 billion, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council said. The country exported gems and jewelry worth $2.78 billion in May 2010. India exported colored gemstones worth $26.99 million, up 9 percent from a year earlier, the trade body said. More
