Research: April US jewelry sales show solid gains

The continuing recovery in the American economy is driving solid sales gains for U.S. jewelers. Sales for both specialty jewelers and other merchants selling jewelry rose by about 7 percent during April 2010, based on the latest data just released from the U.S. Department of Commerce. There were three significant drivers of demand in April, which we have dubbed "The 3 B's": bridal, beads and barter (buying gold). The lack of consensus among Kimberley Process certification scheme members over whether Zimbabwe can resume diamond exports from the troubled Marange area was welcomed by the KP civil society coalition June 26 as the "least bad" outcome. The scheme's annual meeting in Tel Aviv broke up without agreement after through-the-night talks. The Marange diamond fields have been plagued with violence in recent years. More

A new study says that a majority of moms like to see humor in businesses' tweets. Further, what moms want most from businesses' tweets are links to interesting articles/news followed by links to sales or special offers on their websites and links to downloadable coupons/discounts. Analyzing data collected from 533 moms in April, Lucid Marketing and Lisa Finn find 52 percent of moms use Twitter to keep up with businesses they like or find out about new products. In open-ended responses describing what they like about the businesses they follow, moms say they like tweets with personality and companies that interact with them on Twitter. More
