Spectrum Award winners share love of colored gemstones
AGTA    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail
Like snowflakes and people, no two gems are alike. That's why colored gemstones make the ideal medium for one-of-a-kind jewelry designs. Illustrating this premise are multiple award-winning designers of the AGTA Spectrum Awards™ competition. Recognized for their affinity for color, these gem savvy artisans exult what makes each stone unique for wearers who celebrate their individuality. Created in 1984 by AGTA, the contest promotes the range of options color provides in unique jewelry design. Among the talented group of Spectrum designers are Paula Crevoshay, Albuquerque, N.M.; Erica Courtney, Los Angeles; Mark Schneider, Long Beach, Calif.; Robert Wander, Honolulu; and Frederic Sage and James Currens, both of New York. The fashion statement: Jewelry is buggin' out
Luxist    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
What's with fine jewelry's never-ending fascination with creepy crawlers? The trend has been in full swing for years now, but the craze just won't, er, buzz off. Just look at Isabelle Adjani who had fish (courtesy of De Grisogono) wrapped around her wrists at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Thousands of dollars worth of gems diamonds, sapphires, blue topaz, rubies and more have gotten turned into frogs, dragonflies, spiders, reptiles, snakes, butterflies, bugs, stingrays, sea urchins and all manner of little creatures. Aristocratic imperial topaz
Color-n-Ice    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Special names make varieties of gemstone species easily recognizable, but they often reveal an important moment in time for that gems' pedigree. Topaz is so old most ancient writings include at least mention of this erstwhile sparkly stone. Romantic stories tell of myriad origins of the word "topaz," and the derivative from the Sanskrit "fire" seems about as likely as any. One look at a well-cut topaz reveals why: it blinds with dispersion and scintillation, garnering fanatical devotees along the way. More
