Rare vivid blue diamond up for sale at NYC auction
The Associated Press via Google News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A two-stone ring with a rare triangular blue diamond the size of a quarter on a gold band with baguette-cut diamonds could bring at least $15 million when it is offered at auction in New York next month. At 10.95 carats, the stone is the largest triangular-shaped fancy vivid blue diamond ever to come to auction, Christie's told The Associated Press in advance of the Oct. 20 sale. It is paired with a 9.87-carat white diamond cut in the same shape. "Vivid blue is the strongest and purest saturation in any colored diamond," said Rahul Kadakia, Christie's jewelry expert. More

Jade from China's West surpasses gold in value
The New York Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As long as anyone here can remember, the muddy river that flows through this oasis city in southern Xinjiang has yielded creamy white stones, their rough edges polished smooth by the waters that tumble down the mountains from Tibet. And as long as anyone can remember, those stones — a type of semitranslucent jade — were about as valued as, well, a pile of river rocks. Lohman Tohti, 30, can recall as a child heaving melon-size hunks into the sandbags that were used to thwart rising floodwaters of the aptly named White Jade River. More

Fashion Week looks for your engagement party
Engagement 101    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Just as New York is preparing to head into the harsh months of winter, New York Fashion Week popped up to buoy our spirits through the cold months and give us something to look forward to — or back at! Disco and mellow '70s music played on the speakers while big-haired models strutted hot pant and jump suits. Flowers bloomed on runways, poked their heads out from tote bags, sprouted from models' hair and were applied and printed on skirts, coats and dresses. Spring fun was definitely in the air! More

Amy Chan: 'Getting' social media before jumping on the bandwagon
The Huffington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Everyone and their mother is jumping on the social media bandwagon. Some are successful; they are immersed in it on a daily basis and thus in the midst of the action while the social media landscape changes every few months. Some, however, just don't quite get it. They are dabbling in social media once every so often, reading about the trends six months after they've happened and not grasping the non-structured, non-linear nature of the medium. More

Gaga for VMA jewelry fashion
Jewelry Insider    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
"Jersey Shore" meatheads met Gaga's meat couture at the 2010 VMA Awards. And while the jewelry trends weren't as bodacious as the Lady's fashion choices, there were some highlights worth sharing. First: the Franc Ferdinand-designed meat dress. Not even Cher in her iconic black-sequined unitard could upstage this Peta-angering Gaga statement. Thoughts? More
