According to WHO, of the 43.5 million health workers in the world, it is estimated that 20.7 million are nurses and midwives, yet 50% of WHO member states report less than three nursing and midwifery personnel per 1000 state individuals (and about 25% report to have less than 1 per 1000).
Seeing the importance of the demand for nursing and healthcare in education, research and profession, Research International aims to build a platform by organizing the “World Congress on Nursing and Healthcare," which is slated for Nov. 20-21, 2019, in Paris, France.
We are privileged to invite you to this prestigious event.

Nurses are in high demand: the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the number of jobs for nurses will grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, which is much faster than other jobs. The current shortage has left hospitals in a crunch—and a few hospitals in Texas recently turned to an unusual solution: a robot named Moxi.
But Moxi, which was designed and built by the Austin-based company Diligent Robotics, isn’t trying to act like a nurse. Instead, Diligent Robotics founders Andrea Thomaz and Vivian Chu have designed their robot to run the approximately 30 percent of tasks nurses do that don’t involve interacting with patients, like running errands around the floor or dropping off specimens for analysis at a lab.

Unless you are a cinder block or some other inanimate object, you have implicit bias. Just like body odor or flatulence, it is part of being human and can be a problem if you don't recognize it. A study just published in JAMA Network Open should be further evidence of the implicit gender bias that healthcare professionals have. The question, then, is not whether implicit bias exists, but instead what to do about it.

Research affirms what we intuitively know: the ability of individuals and families to lead healthy and productive lives is influenced by a multitude of factors. Beyond the more commonly recognized factors such as insurance coverage and access to medical care are the non-medical social determinants of health. These non-medical drivers include access to healthier foods, safer neighborhoods, reliable transportation, and educational attainment. They also include how we behave in our environment, such as exercise, eating habits, and tobacco use. SDOH account for more health outcomes, including cost, than medical care alone. Importantly, emerging evidence suggests that addressing negative SDOH can lead to improvements in health outcomes.

Ever wish you'd bought stock in an OTC migraine medicine company before beginning work as a nurse? Nurses are definitely known for buying Excedrin extra-strength in bulk. And while headaches aren't exclusive to nurses' odd hours, stress and dietary choices, they do tend to go hand in hand with the nursing field.
Those throbbing temples and migraines "like an ice pick to the brain" may come with the territory. But you can also take steps to prevent and quickly reduce or eliminate on-the-nursing-job headaches.

Facebook is working to limit the reach of posts making “sensational health claims” in an effort to tamp down on misinformation, according to a new announcement from the social media network. Facebook’s new policy is meant to prevent the spread of dubious health information, from anti-vaccine arguments to too-good-to-be-true wellness claims, since, as the announcement notes, “people don’t like posts that are sensational or spammy, and misleading health content is particularly bad for our community.” The site is also cracking down on posts trying to sell products or services based on unsound health claims, the announcement says.

Legislators in 26 states have introduced bills to crack down on parents who request vaccine exemptions for either personal or religious reasons. Three states — Washington, Maine and New York — have passed those measures. A fourth — California — is likely to pass its version next month.
But the debate has become personal, bitter and in some cases threatening, hijacked by a small but angry coalition that wants to allow unvaccinated children into schools and daycares.

Whether delivering care at the bedside or ricocheting from one meeting to the next, we as healthcare providers can benefit by putting pauses into our daily professional practice. Why? Even the hardiest of us get tired, overstimulated or emotionally hooked during our day. We don’t operate at our best when running on empty. So, as a kindness and a responsibility to ourselves and others, let’s consider recognizing when we need to stop and rest — if only for five minutes.

A three-fold jump since 1975 in the percentage of adults worldwide who are obese has been driven mainly by a shift in diet and lack of exercise, but genes do play a role as well, according a large-scale study.
For people genetically predisposed to a wider girth, these unhealthy lifestyles compounded the problem, resulting in an even higher rate of weight gain, researchers reported in The BMJ, a peer-reviewed medical journal.
