ANA\C, along with almost 70,000 other contributors, submitted a letter supporting VA’s Full Practice Authority rule allowing Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) practicing to the full extent of their education and training in taking care of those who served our country in the U.S. military. ANA\C is a member of CA APRN Coalition and a proud supporter of SB 323 (Hernandez) and AB 1306 (Burke) giving full scope authority to nurse practitioners and certified nurse midwives in CA. By submitting our letter to the VHA Director McDonald, we raised our voice and supported VA’s nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives, and clinical nurse specialists. ANA\C is leading the way!
Last week ANA\C hosted a meeting with 9 representatives from Korea Hospital Nurse Association about safe staffing, staffing ratios in California, and about the circumstances and evidence that led CA nursing & healthcare leaders to pass such law in 1999. The Korean delegation included 3 nurses, national health insurance leader, physicians and researchers. We would like to thank Patricia McFarland, CEO of ACNL, for accepting our invitation and for sharing her knowledge, experience & nursing policy expertise with our Korean colleagues.

n 2003, the Institute of Medicine set a goal that, by 2020, the majority of healthcare practices and decisions would be evidence-based. At about the same time, the nursing profession began to take an interest in evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP). The goal was to integrate the best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. EBNP involves identifying solidly researched findings and implementing them in daily practice, in order to increase the quality of patient care and deliver the most cost-effective nursing care possible.
