APSP is proud to announce that Pentair has renewed its sponsorship of National Water Safety Month. May is National Water Safety Month, which is a joint effort of APSP, the American Red Cross, the National Recreation and Park Association and the World Waterpark Association. The event is celebrated by these organizations, participants, sponsors and thousands of aquatics facilities and professionals through educational programs, public service announcements, governmental proclamations, dealer and aquatics business promotions, and the distribution of water-safety-themed materials, aimed primarily at the public, and designed to help prevent drowning and water-related illness and injuries. Of the three main industry sectors, service is the least associated with safety. Builders work to follow construction standards and install safety features such as automatic covers, fences and enclosures, and retailers sell safety products on a daily basis and routinely advise their customers about the safe operation of pools and spas. But for service techs who don't get much face-to-face interaction, safety promotion is less what they say, and more what they do.

These range from material properties and the temperatures and vibrations of equipment to the logistics of supply chains and customer details. Truck engines beam back data on speed, fuel consumption and oil temperature to manufacturers and fleet operators. Optical scanners are used to spot defects in printed electronics circuits. But big data is a long way from transforming manufacturing.
