APSP seeking qualified candidates for the Board of Directors

Pursuant to the Bylaws and Governing Policies of the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals notice is hereby given to all members of the association that APSP is currently seeking qualified individuals from member companies to submit a Willingness to Serve Form to be considered to serve on the APSP Board of Directors. The Board currently has one seat opening this year for a two-year term. The election will take place at the Annual Meeting of Members on Monday Oct. 29 just prior to the opening of the International Pool and Spa Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If you are interested in submitting your name for consideration, click here to fill out the APSP Willingness to Serve form. All Willingness to Serve forms must be received no later than June 30, 2018.

A coalition of water safety partners, including the American Red Cross, the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals, the National Recreation and Park Association, the World Waterpark Association and several other water safety groups, will work together to promote May as National Water Safety Month. National Water Safety Month is a campaign held during the month of May that raises awareness about water safety and highlights the importance pf public education regarding safer practices for kids and adults around the water.

We are still accepting nominations for our 2018 Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant. If you haven't sent your nomination form in, you have until next Friday, May 11. The Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant is a $5,000 grant that honors a public health official or department who has made outstanding contributions to advance the public's health and safe use of recreational water in pools, spas and waterparks through educational, safety, operational and technical programs. The winner will be celebrated this June in Anaheim, California at the NEHA 2018 Annual Education Conference (AEC) and HUD Health Homes Conference. Caley Gibbs is the Marketing Director and a Sales Consultant at Gib-San Pool and Landscape Creations out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. For over 10 years, she has been involved in the pool industry starting her journey in the eighth grade working in the Gib-San retail store. Prior to her current role, she was an incentives coordinator at Zodiac Pool Systems headquarters in the Greater San Diego area. Caley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree, with concentrations in Sociology and Business, from Wilfrid Laurier University. Last month, Caley completed her post graduate in Marketing Management.

Recently, the California Supreme Court issued a landmark decision in the matter of Dynamex Operations West, Inc. v. Superior Court of Los Angeles. In a voluminous, 82-page decision, the California Supreme Court reinterpreted and ultimately rejected the Borello test for determining whether workers should be classified as either employees or independent contractors for the purposes of the wage orders adopted by California's Industrial Welfare Commission in favor of a worker-friendly standard that may upend the existing independent contractor labor market.
